Penguins callup Luca Caputi

The Penguins who strongly considered calling up forward Luca Caputi last week when Matt Cooke was suspended, have recalled Caputi for Tuesday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. Caputi the organizations top prospect, has appeared in 46 contests with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, ranking fourth with 35 points (13 goals and 22 assists) along with 35 penalty minutes. Caputi, 6-3, 185 lbs, recorded 111 points (51 goals, 60 assists) in 66 games with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League last season.

Tyler Kennedy suspended for one game

Pittsburgh Penguins‚Äô forward Tyler Kennedy has been suspended for one game, without pay, for his involvement in an altercation during a stoppage in play during NHL Game #734, Jan. 31 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the National Hockey League announced. Kennedy was suspended per Rule 70.2 which states: ‚ÄúA player who has entered the game on a legal line change… who starts an altercation may be subject to discipline …‚Äù. Penguins have mishandled Whitney since returning from injury

The Penguins begin a crucial 5 game stretch beginning Tuesday night against the Montreal Canadiens. So much for the Penguins turning the corner after beating the Rangers 6-2 Wednesday night. Losing to a rebuilding team like the Leafs shouldn’t happen. The biggest disappointment with this team is their inability to clear the front of the net in the defensive zone. Head coach Michel Therrien and associate coach Andre Savard are defensive minded coaches and just as Mike Yeo takes the heat for the power play struggles, Savard and Therrien deserve some criticism for the Penguins defensive struggles. The Penguins have mishandled Ryan Whitney since he came back from off-season foot surgery. Whitney is clearly struggling and since his first game back he has been among the Penguins leaders in ice time. He should have been gradually brought back not playing 25+ minutes off the bat.
