The Ottawa Sun reports, the Senators will deal F Chris Neil and D Filip Kuba and if they don’t agree to contract extensions before the trade deadline Neil is drawing interest from a number of teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, and San Jose Sharks.
Teams can scratch Avalanche forward Milan Hejduk off of their wishlist as sources indicate the Avalanche have informed teams that Hejduk will not waive his NTC and is not available. The Rangers, Penguins, Sabres, Panthers, Canucks, and Oilers have held talks with the Avalanche about Hejduk over the past month. Hejduk, 33, has one year remaining on his contract.
John Tortorella will be named the New York Rangers head coach, replacing Tom Renney who was fired this afternoon. TSN reports Tortorella is on his way to New York while the Rangers and Lightning work on reaching an agreement. Tortorella fired by the Lightning after the 07-08 season, is still under contract and must be granted permission. Tortorella led the Lightning to the franchise’s first Stanley Cup title in the 2003-04 season as the Bolts defeated the Calgary Flames in seven games. The idea of adding Avery was likely a discussion between Tortorella and management this afternoon. Tortorella was very critical of Avery during his time as an analysis for TSN. It is being speculated that the Toronto Maple Leafs could make a play for Sean Avery. Atlanta is also rumored to be interested. Avery is still property of the Dallas Stars.

The Rangers are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference and have only two wins in their last 12 games. TSN Insider Bob McKenzie speculated on NHL live that former Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Tortorella could likely take over as the Blueshirts next bench boss. The Rangers are looking to move to a more up-tempo system. Tortorella is expected to garner consideration from the Penguins this summer if they decide not to retain Interim head coach Dan Bylsma. All four NHL teams that opened the NHL season in Europe have now fired their head coaches this season.
Boston media wants Tkachuk: The Boston Bruins have been linked to St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk for about a month now and Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe suggests the Bruins need a lefty to play the goal-line position on the power play. Of the players available at the March 4 trade deadline, St. Louis power forward Keith Tkachuk would be the most instant upgrade according to Shinzawa. It‚Äôs believed there has been a lot of pressure from the media to acquire Tkachuk. Tkachuk has submitted a list of 6 teams he would accept a trade too. Boston is on it.
