Penguins sign prospect Alex Grant


The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Alex Grant to a three year entry-level contract. The Penguins fourth round draft pick (118th overall) in 2007 attended the Penguins’ prospect camp and earned an invitation to main training camp this past September. Penguins fall to Rangers 3-2


Pittsburgh controlled the play for the first two periods and failed to hold on to a 2-0 lead as the New York Rangers outshot the Penguins 18-2 in the third period and a late defensive breakdown from the Penguins led to a 3-on-2 and Nikolai Zherdev scored the tying goal with 8.1 seconds left to send the game to overtime. After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout and Rangers forward Fredrik Sjostrom netted the only goal to give the Rangers a 3-2 win. The Penguins got goals from Daryl Sydor and Sidney Crosby. Marc Andre Fleury was strong in the net making 42 saves. Full Analysis in the morning. Penguins to begin four game road trip


The Penguins have quietly won four out of their last five games. The Penguins begin a four-game road trip Saturday night in New York against the Rangers. The 6-2-1 Rangers play the Columbus Blue Jackets Friday night. I may be in the minority here, but throughout the past couple years I have not been against the Penguins playing Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby together. Coming into the season I expected Malkin and Crosby to play together quite often but not this early in the season. In the past four games Crosby and Malkin have combined for 19 points.
