Penguins re-assign Janne Pesonen


Forward Janne Pesonen has been assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL). The 24-man roster includes 14 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders. The roster includes forwards, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Petr Sykora, Miroslav Satan, Ruslan Fedotekno, Matt Cooke, Max Talbot, Tyler Kennedy, Pascal Dupuis, Eric Godard, Jeff Taffe, Bill Thomas and Paul Bissonnette; defensemen Brooks Orpik, Rob Scuderi, Hal Gill, Mark Eaton, Darryl Sydor, Kris Letang and Alex Goligoski; and goaltenders Marc-Andre Fleury, Dany Sabourin and John Curry.

California University Hockey game proceeds to benefit Mario Lemieux Foundation


Cal U vs. Washington & Jefferson College Friday, October 3rd at 9:00 pm BladeRunners Ice Complex—Bethel Park, PA Mario Lemieux Foundation has donated autographed memorabilia to be sold at the game. The Cal U Men’s Ice Hockey-Cal I Team will be donating 50% of their admissions proceeds on Friday, October 3 to the Mario Lemieux Foundation in the memory of former University of Pittsburgh Hockey staff member Lauren Ruud who lost her battle with lymphoma.

Pittsburgh beats Jokerit 4 – 1


The Penguins had their final preseason game today in Finland. Sidney Crosby led the way with 3 assists. Crosby set up first period goals by Evgeni Malkin and Ruslan Fedotenko. Tyler Kennedy scored the Penguins third goal to put the Penguins up 3-1. Crosby assisted on Pascal Dupuis first goal of the preseason that put the Penguins up 4-1. Max Talbot, Paul Bissonnette, Bill Thomas, and Petr Sykora did not dress. Sykora and Talbot have minor injuries. Is Janne Pesonen finding his comfort zone? NHL: Fedorov trying to lure Shanahan to the nation’s capital?


Sources indicate the Washington Capitals have inquired about forward Brendan Shanahan. The man behind the Capitals interest can be accredited to Shanahan‚Äôs old teammate Sergei Fedorov. Fedorov is believed to be trying to lure Shanahan to the nation‚Äôs capital. Shanahan who currently waits for the Rangers to make up their mind will begin listening to offers from other teams within the next couple weeks, if the Rangers don’t make an official offer. The issue for the Capitals is they would have to move some salary to sign Shanahan.

NHL: Gonchar out 4-6 months?


ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reports a source has told him Sergei Gonchar will be sidelined 4-6 months. The Penguins announced last week that Gonchar would be out indefinitely with the prognosis ranging from 6 weeks to 6 months if Gonchar needed surgery. No official word from the Penguins yet.
