NHL: Fedorov trying to lure Shanahan to the nation’s capital?

 

Sources indicate the Washington Capitals have inquired about forward Brendan Shanahan. The man behind the Capitals interest can be accredited to Shanahan‚Äôs old teammate Sergei Fedorov. Fedorov is believed to be trying to lure Shanahan to the nation‚Äôs capital. Shanahan who currently waits for the Rangers to make up their mind will begin listening to offers from other teams within the next couple weeks, if the Rangers don’t make an official offer. The issue for the Capitals is they would have to move some salary to sign Shanahan.

NHL: Gonchar out 4-6 months?

 

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reports a source has told him Sergei Gonchar will be sidelined 4-6 months. The Penguins announced last week that Gonchar would be out indefinitely with the prognosis ranging from 6 weeks to 6 months if Gonchar needed surgery. No official word from the Penguins yet. Marian Hossa to Detroit might have been set in stone during the Stanley Cup Finals. TIOPS reported in June Hossa denied the Penguins offer prior to free agency because he wanted to see what Detroit and Boston were going to offer. Those two cities were Hossa‚Äôs top choices. The Anaheim Ducks have signed Teemu Selanne to a two year deal. Selanne entered training camp on a tryout contract until the Ducks could trade defenseman Mathieu Schneider to clear salary cap room.
