Gerrit Cole loves having Alvarez in lineup

Gerrit Cole said today he is not only comfortable on the mound with Pedro Alvarez at first base, he loves having Alvarez in the lineup.

“I love having Pedro in the lineup,” Cole said during a press conference moments ago. “He tends to hit a lot of home runs when I pitch.”

 

4-6 week timetable still applies for Roethlisberger

Ben Roethlisberger injured nine days ago, told the Cook and Poni show on 937 The Fan today that the 4-6 week timetable still applies to his recovery.

“There’s still quite a bit of pain from the bone bruise,” Roethlisberger told the hosts. “The MCL isn’t super painful. I feel it when I walk at times but the problem is if I walk without a brace, when you kick your leg forward as if you’re just walking, it feels like you leg is just kind of flopping.”

Roethlisberger denied he is on track to return week 7 vs Kansas City, saying he is taking things week by week.

Pascal Dupuis out at least a month

Winger Pascal Dupuis will be out for the first 4-5 weeks of the season with a lower body injury, the Penguins announced this morning.

 

Martavis Bryant looks to move forward

After undergoing counseling in Houston for the past couple weeks, Martavis Bryant is back with the Steelers and hopeful of moving forward with his career.

“I’ve been through a lot the past few weeks. It feels good to be back with my family,” Bryant said today via Chris Bradford. Now I’m back here focused, ready to put everything in the past and move forward with my career.”

Another failed drug test will result in a 10 game suspension for Bryant.

 

Ryan Shazier heading in right direction

Second year linebacker Ryan Shazier (pinched nerve) is heading in the right direction to play in week 5. Shazier confirmed moments ago he practiced Monday and hopes to play vs the Chargers Monday.

 

Tim Erixon placed on waivers

The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed defenseman Tim Erixon on waivers. If Erixon clears by 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, the team would have the option to send him to Wilkes Barre/Scranton.

 

Wild Card Wednesday at PNC Park

J.A. Happ pitched six shutout innings, securing the Pirates home field advantage in Wednesday’s wild card game with a 4-0 win over the Reds this afternoon.

Pittsburgh finishes the regular season with a 98-64 record.
