The Pittsburgh Steelers have released kicker Josh Scobee and officially signed kicker Chris Boswell.
The Pittsburgh Penguins officially released Sergei Gonchar from his professional tryout contract today and Penguins GM Jim Rutherford hopes Gonchar accepts an off-ice role in the organization.
“If he’s not going to try and play somewhere else, we would really like to keep him in the organization,” Rutherford told Jason Mackey of the Tribune-Review. “”We feel that he would be a big asset to some of the things we’re doing.”
The Pittsburgh Penguins today placed defenseman David Warsofsky and forward Kevin Porter on waivers. Warsofsky, Porter will be assigned to Wilkes Barre/Scranton if both players clear waivers at 12:00 p.m. Sunday.
Rosters have to be down to a maximum 23 players by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
A Starling Marte 2-run homer in the 12th inning delivered a 6-4 walk-off win over the Cincinnati Reds tonight. It was the Pirates 11th walk-off win this season and Marte’s 3rd career walk-off homer, 2nd this season.

Penguins finish the preseason with a 3-5 record after a 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes tonight.
Marc Andre Fleury stopped 28 shots in a losing effort. Pascal Dupuis (1) scored his first preseason goal in the third period.
Kael Mouilliert scored the game winning goal in 3-on-3 overtime with 24.7 seconds left to play, leading Wilkes Barre to a 2-1 win over Albany in preseason play.
Conor Sheary also scored for Wilkes Barre in the win.

Enforer Tom Sestito released from his professional tryout contract on Thursday, has signed a professional tryout contract with the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.
After two missed field goals in the fourth quarter and now four on the season, Josh Scobee is tied for an NFL-worst 10 missed field goals since the 2014 season.
Will the Steelers pay Scobee $2.75 million to not kick for them again?
“I let the team down,” Scobee said after the loss. “Hard feeling. I wish I would have been able to come through.”
