The Penguins received some criticism tonight from Bob Costas on the NBCSN telecast and many others for not playing Sidney Crosby in Johnstown, a game Crosby wanted to play in. Mike Johnston took the blame.
“It’s 100 percent my call,” Johnston told reporters afterwards. “When making up those lineups in no way does a player ever say, I would like to play this game or that game. But, I know Sid asked about Quebec and he asked about Johnstown originally, and I told him he wasn’t playing and that he would play the home game against Detroit. I know from his reaction that he was disappointed.”
“[Adam] Clendening has been one of the defensemen that has jumped ahead of a lot of other defensemen. He has been a defenseman who has caught our attention in every game he’s played in. He’s played with poise, he’s moved the puck. He’s interesting right now. There’s going to be a lot of discussion over the next couple days.” — Penguins head coach Mike Johnston on defenseman Adam Clendening.
Matthew Murray was outstanding in goal leading the Penguins to a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight in Johnstown.
Sergei Plotnikov, Ian Cole, Evgeni Malkin and Adam Clendening all scored for Pittsburgh in the win.
Plotnikov scored 14 seconds in and was on the ice for all four Penguin goals.

Porter – Dea – Uher
Mouillierat – Marcantuoni – Sestito
Maatta – Clendening

“When I walked off the field I told the doctor, ‘It feels like my leg is broken,’” Roethlisberger said on Tuesday. “Obviously you’re always scared, with season-ending surgery and things like that. The doctor got in and said he thinks he feels the ACL, but still wanted to get an MRI. You still have that little bit of nerves until you get the MRI, but definitely some relief.”
