Guerin pulled from game

New York Islanders forward Bill Guerin was pulled from the team’s lineup after their warmup Saturday night. Guerin who has a NTC is expected to be asked to waive his NTC in the morning. The Islanders were among six teams at the Penguins – Blackhawks game last night Coyotes defenseman Derek Morris will also sit out until he is traded which will happen before Wednesday. Morris has drawn interest from up to 10 teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins. Trade Talks heating Up; New Info on Ryan Smyth

The Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks remain in discussions regarding defenseman Chris Pronger. Names being discussed right now are Mark Stuart, Patrice Bergeron, and top prospect Joe Colborne. A first round pick would also be involved. The Ducks are holding out for Phil Kessell but the Bruins are the favorites to land Pronger. Sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports the Sharks approached the Ducks about a package of Jonathan Cheechoo, defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, prospect, 1st round pick for Pronger. NFL: Patriots trade QB Matt Cassel to Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs have found their starting quarterback. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs acquired QB Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots in a trade on Saturday. The teams have agreed on compensation, according to Schefter, but no details of the deal were immediately available. Cassel was designated as the Patriots’ franchise player on Feb. 5, guaranteeing him $14.65 million next season. The signed tender was officially submitted to the league earlier this week. The Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders are expressing some interest in Steelers left tackle Marvel Smith. Both teams have demonstrated early interest in the former Pittsburgh Pro Bowler, who missed the final 11 weeks of the regular season and the playoffs this year after injuring a disc. Steelers increase offer; Sign Kemoeatu to 5 year deal ($6 million in guarantees)

This afternoon Steelers guard Chris Kemoeatu gave the Steelers the opportunity to come close to the Jets offer and the Steelers did as the two sides agreed to a 5 year deal worth close to $20 million this afternoon. Kemoeatu will receive $6 million in guarantees. The Jets increased their offer this morning and appeared to be the favorite to sign Kemoeatu but Kemoeatu was torn on leaving the Steelers. The Jets offer was 4 years – $17 million.
