Glaus a consideration Former World Series M.V.P. and four-time All-Star Troy Glaus is said to be on the Pirates radar as a potential right handed bat first base option, according to team sources. Glaus is garnering interest from NL teams as a first base, pinch hitting option and according to agent Mike Nicotera, “interest has been good” through the early stages of free agency. League nails Steelers James Harrison with $25K fine

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison was fined $25,000 by the league today, the Post-Gazette reports. The league hit Harrison this time for his roughing the passer penalty in Sunday’s game against Buffalo. Harrison and his agent Bill Parise received notice from the league just after 12:00 p.m. today, I’m told. When asked if the NFL gave Harrison any reason for the fine being $25,000, Parise told Inside Pittsburgh Sports this evening that the NFL’s reason to him was that this incident was James’ “4th offense” which deemed the $25k fine. Capitals acquire defenseman Scott Hannan The Washington Capitals this afternoon bolstered their blueline, acquiring Colorado Avalanche defenseman Scott Hannan in exchange for forward Tomas Fleischmann. Hannan, 31, is in the final year of a four-year, $18 million contract he signed in 2007. In 23 games this season. Hannan has amassed six points and a plus 1 rating. The Pittsburgh Pirates showed significant interest in 29 year old lefty Jorge De La Rosa but the team never stepped up to the plate and failed to even propose an offer, according to a source close to the situation. De La Rosa is now close to signing a three year deal with the Colorado Rockies, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. The deal will be worth $30 million over 3 years.
