Steelers Offense laid an egg during stretch in third quarter when the game was there for the taking

“We Don’t live in our fears, we live in our hopes” — Mike Tomlin. Tomlin has evolved into one of the NFL’s most aggressive coaches in football. He often coaches off a gut feeling not logic, which can be good at times and bad at times. We saw all of it Sunday afternoon (good and bad) in the Steelers 39-30 loss to the Seahawks. The aggressiveness through the air from Ben Roethlisberger and the play calling saw their passing game look unstoppable at times but it also handed Seattle momentum far too often (Turnovers/Misses) when they had none. When Seattle had no life, the Steelers would always find a way to give them some and it was a recurring theme

Last season Dustin Byfuglien got four games for cross-checking J.T. Miller in the neck. . I believe the league will determine Dubinsky’s cross-check was not as forceful or

On Penguins – Blues & Lemieux/Crosby Relationship

ON PENGUINS – BLUES Marc Andre Fleury allowed 3 goals for the sixth time in seven games in the Penguins 4-3 overtime win vs the St. Louis Blues and the Blues two third period goals were one’s Fleury surely wanted back. It wasn’t a great night from Fleury but the Penguins OT win can be traced back to Fleury’s performance in the first period. St. Louis controlled the play early on with the Penguins falling behind 1-0 on a Paul Stastny power play goal. Fleury, though, kept it a one goal game as Fleury continues to be brilliant this season during those long stretches in periods where the Penguins get badly outplayed and keeps the period from becoming a disaster.

Trade Watch: Does Derrick Pouliot get the Penguins in the game for Tyson Barrie?

Blues GM Doug Armstrong in the House at Consol Saturday Night The last couple games the Penguins have had a front-row seat at a few of the top players available on the trade block, some fits for the Penguins, some not, while a GM Jim Rutherford has a trading history was taking in Penguins – Sharks. 36 year old Patrick Marleau was among the best players on the ice Saturday night. A two assist night in picking up his 1,000th career point, Marleau showed there’s still a lot left in the tank at age 36. Marleau had an individual scoring chance in the first period in making a great move on Marc Andre Fleury but the puck rolled off his

Second Chance Opportunity Woes for the Penguins

ON PENGUINS – SHARKS The Penguins had all the numbers in their favor Saturday night vs the Sharks. A 39-29 shot advantage, 68-50 edge in shot attempts and six power play opportunities to the Sharks four. Yet, while the Sharks had some puck luck on their side, the Penguins had it Thursday night vs Colorado, it wasn’t a game where you came out of ir thinking the Penguins dominated play by any means, despite the advantage in shots and shot attempts. The eye-test had the game feeling like the quality scoring chances were strongly tilted in San Jose’s favor. “Our execution has to get a little better. We had our opportunities. It was a close game,” said Sidney Crosby of

On Scuderi – Letang Pairing; Trade Chatter on Hornqvist & Bonino

When Ray Shero gave Rob Scuderi a four year contract in the summer of 2013, Shero and the coaching staff at the time eyed Scuderi as the ideal d-partner for Kris Letang to give Letang a needed safety valve on the ice. Things never played out that way, the two have barely played with each other since the signing, but now a couple years later, a different coaching staff has the same thinking, at least for one game tonight vs the Colorado Avalanche. Scuderi was officially scratched Tuesday night due to an illness and probably should not have played over the weekend vs New Jersey as he was sick as a dog. He will be back in the lineup tonight

Penguins have perfect type of response game they needed led by Evgeni Malkin

POST-GAME BUZZ Tensions have been sky high throughout the Penguins organization of late. A 4-3 win vs the Minnesota Wild tonight isn’t going to change that but what the Penguins desperately needed tonight was one of their stars, whether it was Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin to not only do something but put on a show. Malkin took the honors tonight in a dazzling performance that included a highlight reel goal in the second period. He was in on all four goals with a 2 goal – 2 assists night. For the first two periods the fans were entertained but a star player putting on a show for the Penguins has become such a rarity around here anymore, if the

Panic Meter Starting to hit the Penguins Once Again and It Should Be

PENGUINS STARTING TO SHOW TRUE COLORS The New Jersey Devils might get mocked for playing low event hockey, but at least the Devils have an identity, something the Penguins have been searching for since Dan Bylsma was booted out of town. Following a 4-0 loss to the Devils Saturday night where the Devils were the superior team in all facets, the Penguins held a close door meeting afterwards and are a team searching for answers. “Everything is wrong,” Evgeni Malkin told reporters. “We’re not playing right, we’re not working hard,” he said. “I know it’s tough right now. I know we’re mad at each other. We’re not working.” It’s not only (lack of) goals, it’s bad penalties, turnovers, it’s everything,”
