LATEST PENGUINS BUZZ
1. The Penguins added to their prospect pool today with the signing of St. Cloud defenseman Ethan Prow (5-11, 185). Prow a puck moving defenseman, fits the identity the Penguins are establishing with their blue-liners. Scouts have praised Prow’s offensive instincts, the ability to jump in the play and one area the Penguins really like about Prow in scouting him the last couple seasons is how smartly he pinches along the wall. That’s an important trait the Penguins are now seeking in defenseman they add.
He’s pretty similar to Jeff Taylor, a seventh round pick of the Penguins in 2014 who the Penguins like.
How much NHL upside Prow has remains to be seen. Many older undrafted free agents get way over-hyped. As a 23 year old, Prow put together his best collegiate season with 38 points, 20 of those points coming on the power play. His previous high in points was 23. Some evaluators don’t put much stock into an older player having increased production into being a good outlier for NHL success down the road.
Robert Morris Head Coach Derek Schooley appeared on Trib Live radio this morning and had this to say about Prow.
“I talked to St. Cloud coach today, talked to another coach on Ethan Prow,” said Schooley. “Smooth, puck moving offensive defenseman that can run a power play. Has tremendous poise. His head coach says that will he be able to defend at the next level because of his skating? His skating just above average and they’ll find that out pretty quickly.”
“Opposing coach said. ‘He’s an all-around hockey player. That’s a pretty good complement for a player to be called an all-around hockey player.”
2. The Penguins like most of the NHL have plans to now pursue Harvard’s Jimmy Vesey this summer who has decided against signing with the Nashville Predators. One of the best prospects in hockey, Vesey’s a skilled left winger with top-6 ability. Has 56 goals and 48 points over his last two seasons (70 games). Don’t be surprised if Pittsburgh tries to sell Vesey on playing with Sidney Crosby long-term but like many of those players who opt for free agency, they already have 2-3 teams in mind and indications are Pittsburgh currently isn’t one of them.

I’m sure somewhere DB is enjoying his long lived memories when he used to coach in a museum
Probably revels in the fact that he puts Therrien to shame.
Murray sucks so bad, he is awful, I am glad he isnt the starter because we would be fucked. Murray gave up three goals and took the wind out of the sales of the Penguins and now they dont trust him… all hail St Murray
I knew pens would lose vs sabres just like they did last week after winning back to back then losing to the Devils
Good call chubby. You knew! Why didn’t you say something, Karnac?!
I said it last article or so but you are too busy drooling over kessel
Or so! You probably whispered it to orpig before you blew him. Maybe that’s why you’re confused.
dumbass
According to you and the rest of the city, wins are the only criteria that matter for the goalie to get into the hall of fame. Murray won tonight so he is a hall of famer.
St Murray! Your GOD!
Yogurt? Comments?
Trade fleury. Murray is ready. To take over the job.
2 goals 5 shots
so kessel was voted most overrated….who says he is great in the first place? did you guys notice that st.blurry made the list for most overrated? one thing is for certain, the talk of him making the hall of fame in this town is completely bizarre for a guy who has more playoff chokes in NHL history and average stats during the regular season. blurry is my vote for most overrated.
I’m sure everyone just fell out of their chair with surprise and befuddlement.
Just so we know some of the names on that list
4% (1) — Alex Burrows, Vancouver / Sean Couturier, Philadelphia / Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh / Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim / Claude Giroux, Philadelphia / Ryan Johansen, Nashville / Evander Kane, Buffalo / Antti Niemi, Dallas / Max Pacioretty, Montreal / Ryan Suter, Minnesota / Shea Weber, Nashville / Dale Weise, Chicago
Thats 28 total votes on the subject… MAF tied most everyone with ONE. Nice twisting of the facts fuckhead
Who ever voted MAF must be a dumb asss fleury is one of the most underrated goalie in the league you want overrated goalie Miller, dubnyk ,Elliot
It’s 28 players that participated……..its a small sample….means nothing…….but I guess you’re used to having small samples as your basis!
Just tried using the prospect tracker for first time ever, lmbo, Sprong is apparently the 2nd and 3rd best prospect behind murray and himself and pouliot who is also 3rd. Followed by Adam Clendening….. smh
whatever happened w/ that D-man Nicalas Andersen or whatever, is he with WBS? still a prospect?
Anderson was never a prospect, he’s 27 and playing his 1st season in NA.
Thanks for everything I could have got off Google (age and playing in NA). Nailors? WBS? if just a guy then why did they even make mention of the signing? Didnt get stories on any other meaningless over seas signing? If guy is 0 value, then what was point of signing?.
The Pirates sign guys with zero value every offseason and you get down on your knees to welcome them with a porn-star blow job. Now, all of the sudden, it’s a problem.
enjoy your chubby stan http://www.torontosun.com/2016/03/28/kessel-is-most-overrated-player-in-nhl-postmedia-poll
they forgot to add overpaid and overweight
He can’t be the most overpaid. Toews is. We talked about this. Please try to pay attention, chubbs.
By the way, I really like this part: Phil Kessel, was the overwhelming choice among players, but fans ranked him second behind Montreal litmus test P.K. Subban.
if the pens would do okay in the playoffs, deep enough where malkin will return, they should put malkin with bennett and sprong. it’s obvious kessel is much better when he carries the puck through the neutral zone instead of passing it off to malkin.
ORRRRR we can look at guys that seem to be fixtures at this point. Rust for sure with one of Sheary, Kuhnhackl or Bennett if he can play that side and isnt dead.
. Jimmy’s brother Nolan was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Jimmy’s father Jim also works as a scout for the Maple Leafs
so most likley little jimmy will join the leafs now we can stop drooling over him
Probably wants to play with Franson.
