Despite believing he has a few more years left in him, an emotional Hines Ward officially announced his retirement minutes ago at a press conference held at the Steelers Southside complex.
“My love and passion has given me 14 years with the greatest organization in football, ” Ward said early in his press conference.
While the passion is there for Ward to keep playing, what led to him making this decision was that he couldn’t picture himself playing in another uniform. “I don’t want to play another uniform, ” Ward said. ” I just can’t picture my self playing in another unform. It just wouldn’t feel right.”
Ward now gets to confirm his legacy playing his entire career with one NFL team. “This is the right thing to do, ” Ward said, indicating how important it is to him to only play for the Steelers in his career. “I’m blessed to have played 14 years here and all with this organization, wearing one uniform. “I want to go down as one of the greats to ever wear the black and gold and that’s how it should go down. I WILL REMAIN A STEELER FOR LIFE.”
Ward began to get emotional when discussing Steelers nation. “One thing I love more than the game and that’s Steelers nation, ” Ward said thanking the fans at length.
This was one of the most unique retirement press conferences because you could see how much Ward loves the Steelers organization and the fans.
What helped Ward in this process was taking a vaction recently and coming to the decision that it was time to start a new chapter in his life.
“I’m happy with my decision. I don’t have any regrets. I want my legacy here to be remembered as me being one hell of a football player here.
