Pirates Winter Meetings Updates

Tuesday 12/6/16

With the Boston Red Sox beating out the Washington Nationals for star pitcher Chris Sale, Pirates GM Neal Huntington and Nationals GM Mike Rizzo have reengaged in trade talks this afternoon surrounding Andrew McCutchen.

Sources say talks stalled late Friday night but are now back on for the first time in days and considered serious.

The Pirates asking price has been considered too steep with the amount of suitors said to be shrinking in the past 12 hours from four to five teams, to now two or three teams with the Nationals re-entering the mix.

The Giants and Rangers have checked in on McCutchen but both signaled to the Pirates on Monday they would likely be going in other directions.

The LA Dodgers remain interested, Jon Heyman reports.

McCutchen Trade Market Heating Up

Dodgers, Braves in the mix?

The Pittsburgh Pirates remain increasingly confident of getting what they feel will be proper value for Andrew McCutchen this week at the Winter Meetings in a trade.

In the past 24 hours the market is said to be heating up.

Talk out of Pirate circles is four teams are in the mix for McCutchen.

The Nationals remain one of them, though, they’re not making Robles available to the Pirates that is said to have stalled talks a bit. The Dodgers who had interest in the summer are another. Jon Heyman reports a “mystery team” is said to be in the mix that hasn’t been revealed publicly.

The Pirates had approached the Braves about a deal in recent weeks but indications last week is that those talks stalled.

The Pirates determined in early November they would trade McCutchen this off-season.
