In an expected move, the Pittsburgh Steelers have officially released wide receiver Lance Moore. The team saves $1.5 million in cap space and now have around $13 million in cap space and that number will grow with more cuts. After coming over from New Orleans, Moore had 14 catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns, making little impact as the Steelers No. 4 receiver. He initially started the season as the Steelers No. 5 receiver.
Just two weeks after having surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, Olli Maatta will return to the lineup tonight for Penguins. Maatta will be paired with Christian Ehrhoff. With Pascal Dupuis out of the lineup, Blake Comeau will get an opportunity on the top line with Sidney Crosby. Zach Sill will dress for the first time in four games. Robert Bortuzzo is expected to be a healthy scratch.
The Pittsburgh Pirates and A.J. Burnett have agreed to a one year deal worth $8.5 million. The 37-year-old Burnett posted a 26-21 record and a 3.41 ERA while making 61 starts with the Pirates during his two seasons with the club (2012-2013) before pitching with Philadelphia in 2014. Burnett, who made a National League high 34 starts while pitching 213.2 innings last season, ranks fourth among all Major League pitchers in starts since 2008 (227). He has also won 10 or more games in nine of the last 10 seasons, including 16 in his first season with the Pirates. In his 16 big league seasons, Burnett has won 155 games in 409 appearances (404 starts). He will enter the 2015 season ranked fifth in career wins, fourth in career starts and fourth in career innings pitched (2567.1) among active pitchers.
Steve Downie scored the Penguins lone goal in Monday’s 4-1 loss to the Wild. Downie buried a beautiful cross-ice feed from Letang on a delayed penalty late in the second period and nearly tied the game in the third period. The Penguins believe Downie can be a 15 goal scorer this season. “Downie has really good skill,” Mike Johnston said. “Watch he works corners. Has head up all the time, makes plays. Le’Veon Bell rushed 21 times for 109 yards and 1 touchdown in the Steelers 30-27 win over the Browns. Bell averaged 5.2 yards per carry and also had a 38 yard TD run in the second quarter. Bell showed his ability in the passing game with 6 receptions for 88 yards. Bell had 197 yards from scrimmage, a new career high.

Fully healthy and the Steelers biggest red zone threat, Miller is being severely undervalued in fantasy football leagues. Per Jeff Marek of Sportsnet, Former NHL coach and GM Doug McLean said moments ago on Hockey Central that he interviewed for the Penguins head coaching job. MacLean has not coached since 2003-2004. MacLean has a career coaching record of 107-114-41 in stints with Florida and Columbus. He will not be getting the job.
