Johnson scores 40, reaches milestone in win

Penn State’s Aaron Maybin turning pro

Penn State defensive end Aaron Maybin who began the season as a backup will declare for the NFL draft. Maybin was told by a draft advisory board that he is a projected first round pick. Maybin finished the regular season with 45 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and a Big Ten best 12 sacks. TIOPS projects Maybin as a top 20 pick

NHL Insider Report: Antropov, Kaberle drawing significant interest; NYR to pursue Scuderi in FA?

The Penguins, Hurricanes, Stars and Blue Jackets have had discussions with the Leafs about forward Nik Antropov. Leafs GM Brian Burke is driving up the price for Antropov If Blues forward Andy McDonald hits the free agent market, Brian Burke will look to bring him in. Rob Scuderi has been one of the Penguins most consistent defensemen this season. Scuderi could triple his current salary on the open market and sources indicate the Rangers will make a play for him if he opts for free agency. If Mark Eaton is worth two million per season, Scuderi’s representatives will be using that as a starting point in talks with the Penguins. The Minnesota Wild have inquired about Lightning forward Martin St.

Farm Report: Pesonen nets 11th goal of season in 4-2 win

The Wilkes Barre/ Scranton Penguins took care of business Friday night beating the Binghamton Senators 4-2 without leading scorer Chris Minard. Minard was called up today and leads the AHL with 26 goals. J-M Daoust’s power play tally with less than three minutes put the WBS Penguins on top 3-2 in the third. period. Mark Letestu (09:15 1st), Janne. Pesonen (08:29 2nd), and Connor. James (19:59 3rd) also scored for the Penguins. Pesonen added his 11th goal of the season to give him 35 points in 32 games. While it doesn’t look like he will be given a shot with the Penguins, there is still some mild interest in him around the league. I could still see him moved in

Friday’s Penguins practice report/ Dupuis back on the ice

The Penguins just concluded their practice in Colorado. Pascal Dupuis skated before the Penguins took the ice but he did not participate in the Penguins practice. Dupuis has a lower leg injury. Chris Minard was not on the ice as he is currently traveling to Colorado. Michel Therrien said after practice that Minard will skate with the top three lines. It has not been ruled out that Minard will see some time on the top two lines. A source tells me Miroslav Satan will be dropped to the 4th line if Pascal Dupuis is able to play tomorrow afternoon. Polamalu, Harrison named to All-Pro Team

The NFL’s #1 defense has two members named to the All Pro team. Safety Troy Polamalu was named for the second time and outside linebacker James Harrison was picked for the first time. Harrison set a Steelers franchise record with 16 sacks and he also had 7 forced fumbles. Polamalu led the Steelers with six interceptions and had 73 tackles

The Penguins have recalled forward Chris Minard. Minard has appeared in five games this season and this will be his third call up of the season. Steelers ‚Äì Chargers Injury Report Pittsburgh is very healthy heading into Sunday’s game. The Steelers are confident that they will be able to run on the San Diego Chargers and their No. 25th-ranked defense. Willie Parker seems to have a new wave of confidence since the regular season finale. Ben Roethlisberger has been throwing the ball very well in practice. NFL: Pitt’s McCoy expected to turn pro today

Barring a last minute change of heart, University of Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy is expected to turn pro today. According to reports, McCoy will meet with Panthers head coach Dave Wannstedt Friday. McCoy is projected to be a late first round/early second round selection. McCoy rushed for 1,488 yards and 21 touchdowns on 308 carries this past season Running back Chris Burns who was impressive in training camp goes into the spring drills as the favorite to replace McCoy as Pitt’s featured running back next season.
