Practice Session: Day 3
The First practice session featured the Black team The team first worked on some 3-on-0‚Äôs to warm up the goalies The next drill was all about the forwards catching the puck off the boards. This is a good drill for wingers. Janne Pesonen showed some acceleration in this drill The next drill was very similar where the forward would catch a pass off the boards and go down the ice and pull-up and hit the trailer. Defenseman Kris Letang looked good in this drill. He has improved his shot compared to last year and his release is quicker. Jordan Staal was skating very well in today’s practice. He is shooting with confidence and has his head up the entire time.
2009 NFL Draft Rankings: C
1st rankings 9/17/08 CENTERS 1) Alex Mack- California, Sr- Legit first rounder. (6-4 316 lbs) I don’t see a way he gets past the Steelers. 2) Jonathan Luigs-Arkansas, Sr- (6-4 314 lbs) Luigs had Felix Jones and Darren McFadden last year to make him look like the best center in the country. Well he should have left Arkansas with them because there is no way he is passing Alex Mack. 3) Max Unger-Oregon, Sr- (6-5 300 lbs) Unger is a very athletic and intelligent player. 4) Antoine Caldwell- Alabama, Sr- (6-3 293 lbs) Caldwell has had some character issues but they were very minor. He should still get drafted in the first 5 rounds come April. 5) Ryan McDonald- Illinois,

James Still, one of the Top 100 players in the Class of 2009, is on a visit to Duquesne this week. The 6-9 forward reportedly received offers from Memphis, Purdue and Xavier last spring. Central Michigan and Western Michigan have also been pursuing Still.
Pitt Lands 3-star Recruit
The Pitt Panthers Men’s Basketball team went to the state of Texas to land their 3rd recruit of the 2009 class. Head coach Jamie Dixon announced today Pitt has received a verbal commit from forward J.J. Richardson (Fort Bend Hightower). The 6-7 forward is viewed as a energy player that scores the majority of his points in the paint and is a very good rebounder. A Pitt Insider told me today that J.J. Richardson is viewed as a Renaldo Balkman type of player.

Mike Tomlin Press Conference Week 3
Tomlin and the coaching staff reviewed Sunday’s game. They were happy with the teams gritty performance. Pleased with the way the Steelers played in the trenches. Tomlin feels the Steelers were the more physical team. Tomlin’s take on the Eagles Tough road ahead on Sunday. Tomlin believes it starts with Donovan McNabb. Tomlin says McNabb is throwing the best deep ball in his career. The Steelers must find a way to contain McNabb. Tomlin also mentions Eagles defensive end Trent Cole as an dangerous player and Marvel Smith will have his work cut out for him again. Injuries Out Brett Keisel ‚Äì calf strain Donovan Woods ‚Äì hamstring Limited but are expected to play Ben Roethlisberger ‚Äì sore shoulder (AC
2009 NFL Draft Rankings: OG
1st rankings 9/15/08 OFFENSIVE GUARDS 1) Duke Robinson- Oklahoma, Sr- (6-5 335 lbs) Robinson would have probably gone in the 2nd round last year had he decided to enter the draft. By returning to Oklahoma, Robinson has given himself a great chance to jump into the first round. 2) Herman Johnson- LSU, Sr- (6-7 351 lbs) Johnson is very durable and very big. Size alone will get him drafted on the first day. 3) Jeremy Perry- Oregon State, Sr- (6-2 334 lbs) Perry broke his leg and needed surgery. We’ll monitor him very closely this season. 4) Kraig Urbik- Wisconsin, Sr- (6-6 332lbs) Urbik can play both guard and tackle, but he only has experience on the right side. 5)
NHL: Shanahan to look elsewhere?
There are strong indications that the New York Rangers front office remains split on whether to bring back forward Brendan Shanahan. Numbers have been discussed but the Rangers have yet to make an official offer. Newsday reports “the possibility remains that the Rangers will offer Shanahan a one-year deal before the team leaves Sept. 27 with about 30 players for Europe, where they will play two preseason games in Bern, Switzerland, and open the season against Tampa Bay in Prague on Oct. 4.” The St.Louis Blues have been among a group of teams that have inquired about Shanahan.
