I think if that were teh case, we’d be hearing a lot more about the Pens exploring the trade market for FLeury – whereby they seem resigned to lose him in the expansion draft for nadda, presumably to avoid losing someone else. Ideally, I agree with you that it might help them do some other things, but I think, now, both will be back.
Is there a market for the rights to negotiate with Sheary? I’m not sure he makes the club with a high salary next year with Hornqvist, Guentzel, Kessel, Rust, Wilson, Kunitz, Kuhnhackl all locked in imo. His size will also be an issue, and if he gets into the 3 mill range, he’s gotta be more consistent. I’d also like to see Sprong given a top 6 role if he proves ready.
More consistent? He was the only guy that consistently scored at even strength, and was on 30 goal pace if not for injuries. WHat’s your definition of “more consistent?”

Hagelin will be moved. Kunitz is locked into a 1 year deal for a little over a million and playing 4th line. The other depth guys (rust, wilson, kuhnhackl) make 600k. Sheary is gonna be closer to 3 million. Big difference when discussing who to keep and who to move.

Kunitz is a UFA, Hornqvist has one year left, Sheary has been a stronger performer than many of the depth guys you’ve named. He had some personal issues he had to deal with that slowed him down for the back end of the year and now he’s expendable? Haven’t seen Spring do half that much yet but we need his spot? With Cullen and Bones likely gone as well there are a couple natural centres on that list that may get a shot down the middle to.
So as part of DK’s article today he confirmed that there WAS a long and heated discussion about making a switch after game 4 before deciding to stick with Murray. Depaoli claims there wasn’t even a discussion. I’m so torn on who to believe, the person who actually has access to the team and in the locker room or the person who has zero sources and zero contact with anyone in the organization? There was no wrong decision, that’s the benefit that comes with having 2 #1 goalies on the roster but playing devil’s advocate here, how does 7 shutout periods prove the decision was right when you have nothing to compare it to? Maybe they would have hade 8 shutout periods if they didn’t make the switch, maybe they don’t even need those shutout periods because they don’t get blown out those 2 games in Nashville and win in a sweep. We can never truly know which decision was better, all we can know is that it produced the desired result.
