Notes from Heinz Field
-Neither Kevin Colbert nor Art Rooney II had much to say today at the Winter Classic press conference about whether they are optimistic over Ben Roethlisberger getting his suspension reduced from four games to six games.
Commissioner Roger Goodell is coming into town this week for a visit. But Rooney insists Roethlisberger is not the reason for Goodell’s appearance. Rooney says Goodell has told him a decision on Ben’s status could be announced by the end of camp.
-Colbert says the Steelers are willing to look at all options currently in house to replace Willie Colon at right tackle.
In his words the team is leaning towards “keeping things as close to the same as they were in the past.” That would mean leaving Max Starks at left tackle and letting Trai Essex, Jonathon Scott, Adrian Jones, and Maurkice Pouncey to figure out who will start at right guard and right tackle.
-Rooney was at the Kaye Cowher funeral and says he doesn’t believe the late Mrs. Cowher’s health problems had anything to do with Bill Cowher’s departure after the 2006 season. Rooney didn’t speak to whether or not her husband stayed away from coaching this year because of Kaye’s skin cancer… or if he will continue to do so in the future.
