Add Brian Gibbons to the list of Penguins UFA’s who have signed elsewhere. Gibbons has agreed to a one year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets today. The deal is a two-way contract. Gibbons had been shopping around for a one-way contract but came up empty.
Gibbons deal with Columbus is for $750,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 in the AHL.
Gibbons one of the NHL’s fastest skaters, had 5 goals and 17 points in 41 games for the Penguins last season. He was an impact player for the Penguins in the playoffs, especially on the penalty kill due to his speed.
Gibbons scored 2 goals in a 54 second span vs the Blue Jackets in Game 2 of the playoffs.
“Brian is excited about the opportunity in Columbus,” Jay Fee the agent for Gibbons told Inside Pittsburgh Sports. “He greatly enjoyed his time with his teammates in Pittsburgh and Wilkes Barre. As well as the Fans.”
Despite some interest from the Penguins in resigning Gibbons prior to free agency, the team “decided to move on from Brian,” Fee said.
