LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (March 15) – Following a week in which he hit a team-best .500 (6-for-12), California University of Pennsylvania senior shortstop Casey Teagarden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Teagarden helped the Vulcans to a 3-0 record the past week, including a doubleheader sweep of West Liberty and a 10-8 victory over Shippensburg at the Savannah Invitational, hosted by Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.).
For the week, the 6-1 senior scored four runs, posted an .833 slugging percentage and registered a .538 on-base percentage. After getting a single and scoring a run in Game 1 against the Hilltoppers, Teagarden went 4-for-5 with one double, three RBI, two runs and three steals in the nightcap. Against Shippensburg on Tuesday, Teagarden connected on his first career grand slam and second homer as a Vulcan.
Cal U returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 16, when it hosts a doubleheader against Salem International at Pullman Park in Butler, Pa., at 4 p.m.
