CALIFORNIA (April 5) - After another successful winter post-season, California University of Pennsylvania remains in the Top 10 of the 2009-10 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, announced the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) recently. The Directors' Cup annually honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program in both men's and women's sports.
The Vulcans now rank seventh in the national standings with 376.5 points this year. During the winter post-season, they totaled 147.5 points following the performances of the women's basketball, swimming and men's track & field teams.
Cal U is one of three programs from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to rank in the top 15 nationally in the winter standings, as Shippensburg is fifth with 386.25 points and IUP is 13th with 340.5 points.
Last year, the Vulcans finished ninth in the country with 583.25 points and were the only team from the PSAC to rank in the top 20.
Grand Valley State (Mich.), who has won the Director's Cup six-straight years, remains atop the standings after the winter with 710.5 points. Adams State (Colo.) moves up nine spots to second place with 463 points and Colorado School of Mines is third with 418 points.
The first Division II spring standings will be released on May 27, while the final standings will be announced on June 23.
