The Athletics and Cardinals have completed a trade that sends outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen, according to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
Holliday, 29,has had a disappointing season overall with the Athletics, hitting .287 with 11 homers and 54 RBIs.
If Holliday plays to his ability he gives the Cardinals some protection for Albert Pujos.
The key to the trade for the Oakland A's is prospect Brett Wallace.
Wallace is regarded as one of the top 50 prospects in baseball.
