Chris Stewart (.267 – 0 HR – 6 RBI) continues to play very well this season in a backup role and gives the Pirates a stronger defensive option than Francisco Cervelli. That was on all display tonight. Stewart went 2-3 with an RBI double in the Pirates 4-1 win over the Mets and kept the Mets runners on the base paths in check, throwing out Eric Campbell on a steal opportunity to 2nd base in the first inning and Stewart also threw out Daniel Murphy trying to steal in the second inning. A weakness for Gerrit Cole is trying to hold runners and the Mets failed to capitalize with Stewart behind the plate.
