Pittsburgh 67 - Duquesne 58
Pitt and Duquesne met tonight at Mellon Arena for the 78th annual city game in what will be one of the more memorable games between the two city rivals.
Duquesne jumped out to a 33-20 half time lead but the Panthers overcame a 16 point deficit in the second half to force over-time and Ashton Gibbs made a pair of three pointers in the second overtime as the Panthers prevailed 68-57.
Pitt has now won nine consecutive games against the Dukes, but for Duquesne, it was a game they let slip away.
The Panthers (6-1) surged back from a 40-24 deficit against a Duquesne (5-2) team that rarely used any reserves. Pitt was the deeper team and were able to wear down the Dukes in over-time, playing a tight defensive game.
Duquesne clearly showed they can compete with Pitt and the Panthers have some work to do moving forward.
