The Bill Cowher rumors are heating up as sources close to Cowher indicate the former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach is eyeing a return to coaching in 2010.
The price tag starts at $8-$10 million but there will be plenty of interest.
Whether Cowher returns to coaching doesn't appear to be his demands but whether he finds the right situation that is suitable for him.
The Buffalo Bills reportedly approached Cowher this week as Bills owner Ralph Wilson is looking to make a big splash.
Cowher though has no interest in joining the Bills organization.
Two potential opening jobs that are reportedly intriguing to Cowher are the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.
Both teams have the framework of being a potential contender and have an established quarterback, at least it appeared the Bears did with Jay Cutler.
Bears head coach Lovie Smith is one of the highest paid coaches making a salary of $5.5 million, while Texans owner Bob McNair is growing impatient with head coach Gary Kubiak. McNair has the money to pay top dollar for Cowher.
Any job that Cowher takes, he wants full control, which makes the Washington Redskins a longshot. Daniel Snyder did approach Cowher two years ago. Money can go a long way, so you can never rule out Washington.
The Cowher to Tampa Bay rumors still won't go away despite Raheem Morris being a first year head coach. The Bucs though are still paying Jon Gruden. Remains to be seen if they would have interest in paying three coaches.
Another longshot is the Carolina Panthers. Yes, Cowher resides in North Carolina but sources close to Cowher don't believe the Panthers would come close to meeting Cowhers price tag.
What to watch for in the Cowher sweepstakes, is whether Cowher impacts Mike Tomlin's asking price.
The Steelers and Tomlin are expected to finalize a 4-5 year extension after the season. Tomlin will have one year left on his current deal after the season that pays him $2.5 million per season. Some beleive Tomlin's new deal will be worth
