The Pittsburgh Penguins (0-2) will likely face a shorthanded New Jersey Devils (0-1-1) squad who may only be able to dress 9 forwards in tomorrow’s game.
According to Tom Gulitti of NorthJersey.com, defenseman Anton Volchenkov and left wing Brian Rolston both sat out the Devils’ 25-minute practice today at Prudential Center. Volchenkov sustained a broken nose and Rolston suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday’s 7-2 loss in Washington.
Furthering the Devils problems is that forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond is expected to be suspended for tomorrow’s game after instigating a fight in Saturday’s loss to Washington.
Gulitti reports that it’s very possible that the Devils will only be able to dress 9 forwards tomorrow. The Devils started the season with 20 players and due to not having any salary cap space, they can’t make any call ups.
New Jersey was 6-0 last season against Pittsburgh.
