Pitcher Donnie Veal (3-2, 4.35 ERA) will undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday to repair a partial torn UCL, the Pirates announced today.
Veal who posted a 3-2 record with Triple-A Indianapolis, was expected to battle for a spot in the Pirates rotation at somepoint in 2011.
His future with the Pirates and at the MLB level is now in question. Veal’s rehab is expected to be in the 12-18 month frame and he turns 26 in September.
