LATEST PENGUINS RUMORS
TSN’s Darren Dreger appeared on the Bob Pompeani show this morning and despite Jim Rutherford downplaying the chances of the Penguins acquiring a defenseman in speaking with the local media this week, Dreger believes the Penguins will add a defenseman.
“I believe Rutherford will add another defenseman,” Dreger said on 937 The Fan ……”I know Rutherford is hoping to add a defenseman.”
Among rental defensemen, Inside Pittsburgh Sports has previously reported the Penguins have expressed interest in Edmonton’s Jeff Petry, New Jersey’s Marek Zidlicky and have joined the crowded list of suitors for Hurricanes defenseman Andrej Sekera, the most highly coveted defenseman on the market.
The Penguins covet a puck moving defenseman to improve their transition game.
MORE TIDBITS FROM DREGER’S INTERVIEW
  • It’s no secret Jaromir Jagr wants to stay in the Eastern Conference but Dreger mentioned the Anaheim Ducks as a possible destination in the West. “Western Conference, maybe Anaheim has some interest,” Dreger said.
  • Dreger when asked about a Chris Kunitz trade: “Not an easy trade to make”
  • Dreger wouldn’t be surprised for the Penguins to look into Daniel Winnik again before March 2nd. “Penguins look at Winnik as being a good fit for Sutter and Spaling,” Dreger said.
