Major League Baseball has just announced that Zach Duke has been named to the National League All-Star team in place of Matt Cain.
*Zach is the first Pirates starting pitcher to be named to the All-Star team since Denny Neagle in 1995.
* Zach is tied for the league lead with three complete games, which is the most by a Pirate since Jeff Suppan also had three in 2003 and the most by a lefthander since Denny Neagle recorded five complete games in 1995.
*This is the third time since 2000 that the Pirates will be represented by two players in the Midsummer Classic (also 2000 and 2006).
*Zach’s 3.29 ERA is the sixth-best among National League lefthanded pitchers behind Wandy Rodriguez (2.96), Johan Santana (3.09), Doug Davis (3.13), Ted Lilly (3.18) and Clayton Kershaw (3.27) heading into today’s action.
