Evgeni Malkin’s return to the Penguins did not last long as the Penguins center exited tonight’s action in the second period after colliding with Buffalo’s Tyler Myers. In the collision, Malkin’s right leg bent inward and he did not return to the game.
Head coach Dan Bylsma said after the game that Malkin will be re-evaluated by team doctors on Saturday. The extent of the injury is unknown until further evaluation.
Malkin returned to the lineup after missing five games due to a left knee injury and sinus infection.
Meanwhile, the Penguins (34-15-4, 72 pts) erased a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2, earning their 34th win of the season and have now moved a point behind conference leading Philadelphia (73pts).
Dustin Jeffrey, Tyler Kennedy and Matt Cooke also scored for Pittsburgh. Cooke earned the games No. 1 star.
Marc Andre Fleury made 26 saves in the win.
Dan Bylsma earned his 99th career win. He can earn No. 100 with a win against the Washington Capitals on Sunday afternoon.
