A five goal second period powered the Penguins to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night at Consol Energy Center, extending their winning streak to five games.
After a sluggish first period, the Penguins erupted in the second period getting goals from Siidney Crosby (5), James Neal (7), Pascal Dupuis (4), Matt Cooke (2), and Evgeni Malkin (3).
Having their best game of the season on the power play without Kris Letang, the Penguins scored three power play goals in the period, coming from Crosby, Neal and Malkin. Malkin’s power play marker at 6:59 of the period jumpstarted the Penguins who took control of the game from there on out.
Crosby and Malkin each had a goal and two assists and Chris Kunitz had two assists.
The Penguins improved to 8-3-0 on the season.
