Three Steelers claimed on waivers today
2009 3rd round pick Kraig Urbik fell out of favor with the Steelers organization due to his slow development at the guard position but it appears the possibility might have existed where the Steelers could have received some compensation for the former 3rd round pick.
Urbik today was claimed by the Buffalo Bills but a total of five teams put in waiver claims, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.
The Bengals, Jets, Broncos and Dolphins all put in claims along with the Bills who were first in the waiver process among the group of five teams.
Agent Peter Schaeffer told me this evening that his understanding is that the Steelers did not actively try to look for a trading partner for Urbik. I’m told Urbik was informed as early as 12:00 p.m. on Friday that he had been released.
Urbik was eligible for the Steelers practice squad.
In other news, kick returner Stefan Logan was claimed by the Detroit Lions today. To make room for Logan, the Lions released linebacker Rocky Boiman who spent the final six games with the Steelers last season.
Logan will reportedly become the Lions primary punt returner.
As we first reported this afternoon, third year linebacker Patrick Bailey was claimed by the Tennessee Titans.
