Francisco Liriano (1-6, 4.60 ERA) was pulled from tonight’s start in the fourth inning vs the Chicago Cubs due to discomfort in his left side.
The injury happened after Liriano made his 55th pitch of the night. After being examined by trainers, he tried to throw a couple warmup pitches but couldn’t keep going.
Liriano who has had a rocky season, allowed a two-run homer to Anthony Rizzo in the first and left the game allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out 4 and walked none.
If Liriano misses a start or heads to the DL, Vance Worley is the Pirates next internal option to be called up.
