LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Jan. 11) – Following her record-setting performance last month, California University of Pennsylvania freshman Bria Jay (Plum, Pa./Plum) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women’s Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, announced the league office.
Jay set the indoor school record and qualified for the PSAC Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash at Golden Flash Gala on Dec. 11. In her college debut, she crossed the finish line in 7.99 seconds to break the previous school record set last season by nine-hundredths of a second. Jay’s time ranks as the third-fastest in the PSAC this year and placed her 15th overall in a field of 77 sprinters at Kent State.
She also qualified for the league championships in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.36 seconds, the seventh-best time in the PSAC this year. The Plum graduate also was a member of the 4x400-meter relay that finished with a time of 4 minutes, 0.55 seconds, which ranks as the second-fastest time in the conference and 12th-best in NCAA Division II.
Jay and the Vulcans return to action on Jan. 22 when they compete at the State Farm Games hosted in Morgantown, W.Va.
