Brooks Orpik (1) scored in overtime as the Penguins prevailed in Game 6 with a 4-3 overtime win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night, winning the best-of-seven series, 4-2.
Orpik scored 7:49 into overtime with a shot from the point and the Penguins will face the Ottawa Senators in Round 2.
The Islanders dictated the play from the drop of the puck, outshooting the Penguins 35-19 at the end of regulation, but it was the Penguins who took Game 6 because of their quick strike ability.
Paul Martin (1) forced overtime scoring with 5:16 left in the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Jarome Iginla (2) and Pascal Dupuis (5) also scored for the Penguins in the win. Tomas Vokoun made 35 saves and was excellent in goal as he is the primary reason there isn’t a game 7 tomorrow night.
John Tavares (3), Colin McDonald (2), and Michael Grabner scored the Islanders who outshot the Penguins 38-21.
