Gateway high school linebacker Darrell Turner who played for one of Pennsylvania's top high school football programs, was shot and killed in North Carolina on Thursday night.
Turner and teammate Thomas Woodson were at a shopping center in Durham, North Carolina and got into an altercation with a man named Gabriel Gamez, according to reports.
Gamez then shot Turner and Woodson who was hit in the leg and expected to survive.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Turner's dad told the paper that his son and Woodson were traveling to Bradenton, Florida for the IMG Madden 7-on-7 Championships which are set to begin on Saturday.
Gomez, 22, of San Antonio was arrested at 2:00 a.m. and charged with murder and assualt of a deadly weapon. He is being held without bond.
