The Pittsburgh Pirates today called up 2004 1st round pick Neil Walker from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Walker is batting .321 with 6 home runs and 26 RBI’s.
The mystery surrounding Walker is whether he will play every day as there are doubts that the Pirates are ready to sit Aki Iwamura or even Jeff Clement at first base to open up an everyday spot for Walker.
GM Neal Huntington has not put those concerns to rest after his comments on Walker this afternoon.

“Neil will be used as a corner utility player that can help us with his versatility and bat, Huntington said.
“He has some level of preparation and is available to play at the Major League level at first, second, third and the corner outfield. As with any player in his situation, he will see playing time off the bench and in spot starts.”
“Obviously he has swung the bat well in Triple A and we look forward to seeing if he can carry that maturation and production to the Major League level to earn playing time.”
