Penguins fall to Devils 2-1
The most glaring stat of last night‚Äôs loss was the Penguins were outshot 49-15 by the New Jersey Devils. The Devils controlled the play, won loose pucks and they were the more physical team. Michel Therrien said it best last night when he said his team ‚Äúdidn‚Äôt work‚Äù. Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury was phenomenal and nearly stole two points away from the Devils if it wasn‚Äôt for a fluke goal off of Hal Gill’s skate. A concern for me was the Devils were the faster team. They showed a lot more team speed than the Penguins did Saturday night. The Penguins power play is now 2-18 on the season after going 1-4 against the Devils
Miroslav Satan played his best game in a Penguins uniform (including the preseason). He was moving his feet well and he was creating plays in the neutral zone. Satan scored the Penguins only goal at 11:52 of the opening period.
Word is Tyler Kennedy may get a look on Sidney Crosby’s left wing once Petr Sykora returns. Therrien has yet to find the right match on Crosby’s left wing which remains an issue. Therrien started Ruslan Fedotenko on Crosby’s left wing and Pascal Dupuis also saw some shifts with Crosby
Michel Therrien made a surprising lineup change prior to yesterday’s game, playing Daryl Sydor on left wing. Sydor did not take a shift on left wing during the entire week of practice. Therrien scratched Paul Bissonnette in place of Sydor. Sydor was not happy about it.
Petr Sykora is questionable for Tuesday’s game against the Flyers but it is more likely that he play Thursday against the Capitals.
Pittsburgh has been checking in on a few of their targets. Check back later this evening for the latest
