Gaborik remains limited in camp
Star winger Marian Gaborik has been limited in the first week of training camp with a groin pull. Not a good sign for the injury prone winger but for now the Rangers don’t appear to be very concerned.
They contend that he will be ready to go when the Rangers open the season in Pittsburgh.
Center center Brandon Dubinsky remains a holdout. The Rangers have not increased their two year offer and they won’t. If your looking for a Kessel – Dubinsky trade…..it’s not going to happen. Bruins have minimal interest in Dubinsky.
Newcomers Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins are having a strong camp. The Rangers have added some speed up front.
Higgins is a player the Rangers are counting on to reach his potential offensively this season.
Winger Ryan Callahan will have a 25+ goal season in John Tortorella’s system. Callahan had a team high six shots in the Rangers pre-season opener Tuesday night.
Rookie defenseman Matt Gilroy is drawing rave reviews around the league. Scouts expect him to contribute right off the bat for the Rangers.
Gilroy who played just under 22 minutes Tuesday night, will fill a hole for the Rangers but they aren’t done adding.
The Rangers are still actively looking to add another veteran defenseman. They have held trade discussions with the Toronto Maple Leafs about defenseman Ian White.
On the Rangers blue line, defenseman Marc Staal will be the key: Questions remain whether Staal can take his game to the next level and develop into a shut-down defenseman.
