Curtis McElhinney stopped all 17 shots in relief of an injured Petr Mrazek and the Carolina Hurricanes have taken the first two games in Brooklyn, opening up a 2-0 series over the New York Islanders . Injuries keep piling up for the Hurricanes, this time losing Mrazek in the second period and their underdog story continues, now two wins away from advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Hurricanes burned the Caps in round 1 with third period scoring and today was the same story vs the Isles. Entering the third down 1-0, Warren Foegele scored 17 seconds into the period and Nino Niederreiter scored 48 seconds later. Carolina has held the Islanders to just two goals thus far in the series. The Islanders scored 7 goals in two homes games vs the Penguins in Round 1.
