Leon Draisaitl scored in overtime, lifting the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 win over the Penguins on Saturday afternoon. While the likes of Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby were held off the scoresheet, Oilers netminder Mike Smith stole the show with 51 saves. Pittsburgh peppered Smith with 52 shots on goal and drove possession all day with an 82-43 edge in shot attempts, including a 61-26 advantage in 5-on-5 play. Yet, Pittsburgh was held to zero even strength goals on the afternoon as Pittsburgh’s lone goal came shorthanded from Brian DuMoulin.

The play of the night was when letang shot the puck wide in OT giving the oilers a perfect breakout. Same old same old.
More proof Possession stats don’t equal goals.
Except the long term proof the other way is substantial. It’s quite a fucken idiot suggestion to use this single game vs a hot goalie as evidence to dismiss possession lol.
Since 2008 the cup winners have been top 10 in possession playoff or reg season in each year except 2! In one of those years the better possession team won and the other… MAF melted down 😉 wrestle with that
