The Pittsburgh Penguins extended their home winning to nine games and have won 12 of 16 games with a 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

The final score was more lopsided than the level of play was.

Ottawa was the better team for two periods but the Senators trailed 4–1 at one point in the second period despite outshooting the Penguins 22-9.

Mike Sullivan was not happy with his teams play in the first two periods. Matt Murray was really good in goal when needed early on as he continues to round into form.

Jake Guentzel whose uneven offensive production lately has been a hot topic of discussion in town, had a 2-goal night, scoring his 17th of the season on the power play at 4:17 of the first period and added his 18th in the second period.

Guentzel led the Penguins with 6 shots on goal and was very effective in finding the soft spots in the Senators D-zone coverage.

Rookie winger Zach Aston-Reese had a big night with 2 goals, scoring his first career goal at 11:22 of the second period as Pittsburgh opened the floor gates and pushed their lead to 4-1 on Aston-Reese’s first career marker.

Aston-Reese would add his second of the night late in the third period.

“It was pretty special,” Aston-Reese said of getting that first goal.

Sidney Crosby who had three assists in the win, assisted on both of Aston-Reese’s goals

Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang also scored in the win.
