PENGUINS 4 – LIGHTNING 2

Talk about making the most of limited opportunities early on. In an opening period the Penguins (27-17-6, 60 pts) were at 18% in possession and out-shot 16-5, Pittsburgh scored three goals on just five shots in the first period, including goals 16 seconds apart from Phil Kessel and Sidney Crosby to storm out to a 3-0 lead, 8:21 into the game. Kris Letang then tied Paul Coffey for the most goals (108) in Penguins history with a second period goal off the rush as the Penguins built up a 4-0 lead over the league-leading and secured a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night.

Letang with a goal, assist in the win, posted a +3 rating and 4 blocked shots while playing 27:28. Matt Murray also turned in a strong bounce-back performance. He was squaring up shooters much better than Monday night and kept Tampa Bay scoreless in the first period where they were the far superior team despite being out-scored 3-0.
