The NHL won’t let the Washington Capitals suffer for the second straight season of watching the Penguins raise their Stanley Cup banner in the season opener.
The Penguins home opener for the 2017-2018 season has been announced and the Stanley Cup champions will raise their banner October 4 vs the St. Louis Blues at the PPG Paints Arena.

1) Any of the 4 teams the Pens beat along the way
2) Red Wings: The last 2 back-to-back Cup franchises
3) Vegas: Fleury joins celebration, Vegas’s first game on the biggest possible stage
4) Chicago: Generations two most accomplished teams
5) Flyers: Cuz fuckem, thats why
6) Any Canadian team: So one of them can finally be near the Cup
Agreed. I would’ve loved to seen it against Washington again, though. It’s just too funny. Their writer for hockeybuzz was losing his mind for about 3 weeks during aND after that series.
Are you saying the league is still struggling to properly market the team with storylines like those? Someone needs to add an algorithm to their auto-scheduler for this exact reason.
