The Pittsburgh Pirates have accomplished one off-season goal — Getting Charlie Morton off the books —

The Pirates have a struck a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, sending to Morton to Philadelphia for minor league RHP David Whitehead. Morton was owed $17.5 million over the next two seasons. He went 41-62 with a 4.39 ERA in 801 innings pitched during his Pirate career.

Whitehead, 23, was drafted in the 34th round of the 2013 draft. In single-A (FSL) he went 9-11 with a 4.44 ERA. Whitehead was not among the Phillies top-30 prospects, according to MLB.com
