Last summer Matt Cullen was destined to sign with the Minnesota Wild if GM Chuck Fletcher would have came forward with an offer after numerous discussions all summer between the Wild and Cullen’s agent Pat Morris.
One never came and Cullen eventually resigned with the Penguins in mid-August and won another Stanley Cup.
With Cullen’s wife wanting to live full-time in Minnesota, the speculation has been out there that if Cullen returns for a 20th season, it might only be for Minnesota.
Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports the Wild have contacted Cullen this week during the UFA period. Russo also reports Minnesota has reached out to Chris Kunitz.
Kunitz, per sources, has seen a strong market emerge with six teams calling in the first 24 hours and that number has now rose. He is very popular among playoff teams.
I thought I read that if Cullen decided to return for one more year if was gonna be only with the pens??? and as for Kunitz how can you not try and resign the guy. physical and can score goals. gritty player that can play up and down the lineup. 2 yrs 3.75
I still wouldn’t scoff at Kunitz for about a million but if someone decides to bankroll him I would just as easily part
a million, that’s all your willing to give Kunitz? I’d go 1yr, 2.25, or 2yr, 2.0. Hes just so versatile in this lineup, you can play him on anywhere.
I’d do that as well. I bet he signs somewhere for 2.5’3 though at least. 4 cups says something
Since 2014:
35, 17, 17, 9.. these are his goal totals w/ 68, 40, 40, 29, and these are the point totals. He turns 38 at training camp, while the work ethic is there no question the natural ability he had is fading with age. He will likely continue to regress numbers-wise so I argue that paying him 2.5 million with any term comes with risk.
He’s a fourth liner now. Trending down. $2.5 is too rich for me
Of course you would lol, Guy is no longer worth that. While his playoff resurgence of a few games was fun to watch it’s clear he is no longer a guy to reply on for those outbursts and he isn’t getting younger. I would go as high as 1.5-1.75 range but that’s pushing it on the high end
