With just over 48 hours to go before the trade deadline, Pirates GM Neal Huntington is showing a strong willingness to trade closer Mark Melancon who is expected to sign elsewhere this off-season as a free agent.
The Pirates are serious enough about moving Melancon that they have given four specific teams involved in talks for Melancon a list of prospects To read this insider news, subscribe to get “Inside Access”!
What a miserable organization.
Anything that is in Pittsburgh is miserable including Hilary Clinton being in Pittsburgh today
Not every city can be Vancouver with a superstar like McDavid to carry the load.
Rosenthal just said the Nats are focused on Melancon, and their top 6 prospects are all very intriguing. if they have to, id throw in another decent prospect to get Giolito.
Its a wet dream, but what a nasty rotation that would be for the next 3 years with Cole, Taillon and Glasnow.
Ultimately, i can see this deal coming down to Melancon and Reynaldo Lopez, if it were to get done.
Or i can be way off and the Pirates give him away.
The reliever seems solid. Hearn is blah at the moment. A lefty who hits 100 is a valuable commodity but he seems far from a sure thing.
Seems like a deal you could see being a total success as much as a total failure. But I trust NH with pitching prospects. Not the same scale but hope it turns out like the Snider trade.
I like Rivero, and despite his misleading ERA, he does lessen the blow of Melancon. BUT, were talking about one of the best closers in the game. He doesnt throw Chapman heat, but hes as dominant as they come in the 9th inning. Today, im underwhelmed. Hope Hearn turns into something.
I feel that. Seems like they’re banking on his upside eventually making it close to the Chapman trade.
It seems like the bigger piece is Rivero, who could be a dominant RP the next 5 years, but hell need some seasoning. Sprinkle some Searage on him and see what happens. I have no issue with the player, but the overall haul seems below current market.
I want Benny’s take. “Another steal by the best management team in baseball!!”
haha I dont even have to thumbs down that, Someone else is aware of just how much crap you make up on here, lmao…… but my honest take is that is should have taken much more than that to make a trade. I get he isnt as flashy as Chapman, but numbers dont lie and those reflect him being the best player in baseball the last 3 years….. def not a fan of the move.
Despite the fact he gets lit up on a regular basis, he’s not bad. Certainly worth an allstar.
Could’ve said the same when they got Melancon for Hanrahan, to be fair.
Initial reaction is, what a bummer. Rivero is very talented, with a good K/BB ratio, and should slot into the 7th inning, but the prospect leaves so much more to be desired. Never have seen him pitch, but on the surface – the Nats 27th ranked prospect is the other piece? Wasnt expecting a similar haul to Chapman, but a top 100 prospect was the expectation.
I guess one comforting thing is Glad now was ranked around there at that point. Doesn’t seem uncommon for pitchers to start lower at those levels.
trade mcsuckin and drugs hoes kang
“Tear it down. Can’t win with this team.”
Yoda is like a hormonal teenage girl. Wallowing for years how they’re about to trade him now demands it.
