The NHL announced this afternoon that New York Islanders defenseman Andy Sutton has been suspended two games without pay after leaving Pittsburgh’s Pascal Dupuis with a major gash over his right eye with a hit from behind in Tuesday night’s game.
Sutton was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding after hitting Dupuis with less than three minutes left in New York’s 6-4 loss to the Penguins.
Sutton will miss Thursday’s game against Florida and will sit Saturday against New Jersey, forfeiting more than $31,000 in salary. He’s eligible to return Jan. 26 against Washington.
Dupuis right eye was swollen shut this morning as the Penguins wait for further results to see if there was any structural damage.
