Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Aki Iwamura has cleared waivers and was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis tonight.
Iwamura, 31, batted .182 with 2 home runs and 9 RBI's in 54 games. He lost his starting spot to Neil Walker early this month, who has flourished as the Pirates new starting second baseman.
Iwamura is the Pirates highest paid player, making $4.85 million in 2010. Iwamura will report to Indianapolis on Friday, according to the team.
