LATEST PENGUINS RUMORS
While the price for Jeff Petry remains too high for the Penguins liking and the Penguins uncertain New Jersey will move Marek Zidlicky, a player of strong interest to the Penguins, there continues to be intrigue inside the organization about 36 year old defenseman Jan Hejda, sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports.
With the trade deadline less than 26 hours away, Hejda, 36, remains a name the Penguins are considering.
The Penguins believe a great penalty kill could get them through the East and feel Hejda would give them a second Rob Scuderi type on the PK and the organization’s scouts believe Hejda can still play top-4 minutes and potentially play the left side with Christian Ehrhoff.
Hejda is averaging over 21 minutes per game and the Penguins like his high hockey IQ.
The Penguins have scouted Hejda a ton over the last month.
What complicates a trade is Hejda’s $3.25 million cap hit but the Penguins are considering a move for Hejda or another depth defenseman.
